Happy New Year

I hope you had a nice festive season and that the western New Year has started well for you. If it hasn't you can start all over again with the Chinese New Year.
Year of the Horse
So what were your goals dreams and aspirations at the beginning of January?
Have you taken any steps to make them come true? If you haven't then they will just remain dreams.
You must take action if you want things to change and in many cases you must take at least one different action, because as Henry Ford put it: If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."

Now have a think.... what is it that is getting in the way of you taking that action?....  Fear? It usually is, either fear of failure or of success. The latter often surprises people but many either consciously or unconsciously wonder whether they can live up to success and deal with everything that comes with it. (More on fear of success)

Whichever it might be for you, if you want your dream to come true and you keep finding umpteen reasons why you can't start the change NOW then contact me for a free 30 min consultation (via skype, phone or in person).  I can show you how easily you can get rid of all the blocks, unhelpful beliefs and fears that are getting in the way of you making your dream a reality, so you can live the life you want, whatever that may be. Have a fantastic journey

Darwin Vs Freud, nature or nurture, biology or psychology

Just read an interesting article about epigenetics see link below.  It is not just through changing our genes that we can change, our genes can stay the same yet our characteristics change.

So to me, no matter what trait you have that is getting in the way of you living the life you want, it can be changed, you have to be willing though.

If you are willing to change and feel you need help then I would be glad to share ways that I have seen work over the last 20 years.

Dicover magazine article: Grandma's experiences leave a mark on your genes.

Feel great in 15 Minutes!

My friend from Holland sent me this video link in the best wishes to me for 2014.
It so happened, the day I watched it, I was feeling somewhat overwhelmed about the way forward for me.  What happened next surprised me, even with everything I know about the connection between the body and the mind and their powerful interaction.

Having watched this video, although nothing had changed regarding the tasks I need to to do and still was no clearer about direction, I felt much better. It didn't matter so much that I felt I had lost my way, I was able to be OK with that and patient, waiting for the answer to become clear.

This is why I'm posting this link,  I hope it makes you feel great too whatever might be going on in your life. It's just 15 min long and it can change the whole feel of your day and who knows maybe your life. I hope you enjoy it.

This is what I would love to see hear or feel in everybody.
Watch this 15min video and see how you feel afterwards!
Smiling releases powerful chemicals in the body and it can change your life - see / feel for yourself!

"You Can Teach an Old Habit New Tricks"

Did you know that over 40% of the "decisions" we make every day aren't really decisions?
They're habits.
We may think that we are making hundreds of decisions a day, but we are actually just doing exactly what we've done before, with very little thought.
Now, some habits are great. Like exercising regularly or getting enough sleep. But many of our habits make us less productive, less effective—less everything—than we could be.
So what can you do? You can change an old habit into a new habit.
While changing a habit isn't easy, it is simple—especially if you follow the process described by Charles Duhigg, author of the bestselling book The Power of Habit.
The key is to understand that you can't completely extinguish a bad habit, but you can change that habit—and still get the same "reward" you currently get from your old habit.
Here's how:
1. Redefine "must."
Think about your typical day. Very little of what you think you "must" do a certain way really must be. You may or may not have had a good reason in the beginning, but after a number of repetitions, it becomes routine, with little forethought. We rarely go back and evaluate, “is this the best way to accomplish my goal?”
The only way to change a habit is to first decide that the "must" can actually be negotiated or even eliminated.
Let’s say that your habit is to check your email first thing. You want to change that habit because you tend to get bogged down by a flood of correspondence that gets you off track. So how do you change that habit?
2. Determine the Cue.
Habits operate within a simple loop: cue, routine, and reward. The cue is the trigger that, based on some craving, shifts your brain into autopilot and initiates the routine. Whenever you feel an urge for a habit, that urge is the cue.
In the case of checking your email first thing, it may be as simple a cue as having your email client open on your computer desktop when you start work. Or having notifications set up so you get pinged every time an email comes in.
3. Determine the Routine.
This is easy. Your routine is the actual steps of your habit. It’s grabbing a donut with your morning coffee, cruising Facebook on your break – or, in this case, sitting down at your desk and checking email right away.
4. Determine the Reward.
Sometimes the reward isn't always so easy to figure out. Checking email may give you a feeling of control. Or a sense of relief that nothing horrible happened overnight.
So, think about the craving that is behind your habit. Grabbing a coffee at 11am may not be about coffee, but is instead a need to socialize or stretch your legs. Coffee is just an excuse or habit.
Identifying the reward is the key distinction here, because to change a habit the reward has to stay the same. You’re not going to deny yourself the reward—you'll just make the way you get that reward a lot more productive or positive.
5. Change the Routine.
Now that you know your cue and your reward, it’s time to change the routine.
If you check your email to make sure that no disasters happened overnight, then you need to find another way to get that reward of relief and safety.
Here’s one example: if you work with an assistant (virtual or otherwise), you can have them check your important emails and call you immediately if there is a disaster looming. Or have a separate email address, (i.e. critical@yourcompany.com) that is used only for emergencies, and that’s all you check first thing in the morning.
6. Write it down.
Now that you have all the pieces, the easiest way to implement a new habit is to write out a plan. The format is simple:
When (cue), I will (routine) because it provides me with (reward).
Do that enough times, and eventually your new habit will be automatic—and you'll be more productive!

'Please feed me' from UPSIDE thinking

I share this as I couldn't put it any better myself.  Thank you Lisa for this great story. Please Feed Me! - Upside Thought of the Week -

by Upside Thinking on Monday, 29 October 2012 at 19:36 ·

Greetings,

Do you find it easy to be Upside, and find the opportunity in the challenge?

Or, do you struggle with finding the silver lining, and staying in the space of joy regardless of what is going on in your life?

Or, maybe you wonder why some mornings you wake up feeling like the eternal optimist, and by the afternoon you're full of doubt?

Often asked about my Upside attitude, and positivity, I'd like to share this Cherokee story with you.

An old Cherokee was speaking to his grandson about life.

"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego."

He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

And, the same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

When you find yourself struggling to be Upside, think about which wolf you are feeding.

In your personal and professional life, do you start your day with gratitude, and build your hours, days, and weeks with thoughts of creativity, energy, and joy?

Or, do you center yourself in scarcity, lack, and want?

And, how about who you surround yourself with?

Do the people around you energize you and affirm who you are and where you're going?

Or, do they criticize your decisions, and your dreams?

Yes, the one you feed will succeed.

See Upside. Be Upside. Live Upside.
